Departure – July 1, 2026

A fascinating 16-day journey through two of the planet’s most stunning ecosystems. We will begin in São Luís, the capital of Maranhão, before heading to Atins on the banks of the Preguiças River, the gateway to the majestic Lençóis Maranhenses National Park. There, we will enjoy the lagoons formed between the dunes, the beaches, and skies perfect for astronomical observation.

The second part of the trip takes us to the Amazon, navigating the Negro River for several days on a private boat, discovering its wildlife, flora, and local communities. We will spend a night deep in the Amazon rainforest, experience sunrise among natural sounds, swim with pink dolphins, and explore Anavilhanas National Park, a true biodiversity gem. The journey concludes in Rio de Janeiro, enjoying the sea and the vibrant carioca lifestyle before returning home.

Daily Itinerary

Date: July 1

Arrival at São Luís airport and transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon, group meeting by the pool for introductions and a welcome to the trip. Dinner on your own at the hotel restaurant.

Date: July 2

After breakfast, we will enjoy a city tour with a local guide to explore this vibrant city of northeastern Brazil, its history, and its Portuguese and Dutch heritage. Return to the hotel and free afternoon.

Date: July 3

We leave the hotel and transfer to Barreirinhas, where we will board a boat to Atins, enjoying a fascinating ride along the Preguiças River to its mouth at the Atlantic Ocean. Overnight at the inn and free afternoon.

Date: July 4

After breakfast, we will depart for an excursion to Lençóis Maranhenses National Park in 4x4 panoramic vehicles across the dunes. We will spend the day visiting several lagoons, have lunch in the park (not included), and return to the inn.

Free day to enjoy the beach, and in the late afternoon, we will join Martín Marassa, amateur astronomer and musician, for a tour to discover one of the most beautiful skies on the planet, thanks to its low light pollution, with a guitar session under the stars!

Enjoy a free day to walk along the beaches, explore the town, or relax at the inn before continuing the journey.

Date: July 7

We take the boat back to Barreirinhas and transfer to São Luís airport to fly to the heart of the Amazon rainforest and its largest city: Manaus! Arrival, check-in, and free time.

Date: July 8

After breakfast, we will depart for an excursion to Presidente Figueiredo National Park with a local guide, including lunch. There will be time to swim by one of its many waterfalls!

Date: July 9

We will be picked up at the hotel around 8 a.m. to head to the Manaus Port. Before boarding the boat, we will visit the port market to explore this space where local fishermen bring their daily catch and sell it alongside other local crafts.

Around midday, we will board the boat and set off toward the meeting of the Negro and Solimões Rivers, an extraordinary natural phenomenon that we will witness from our vessel.

After lunch on board, we will explore the Igapó channel in a small boat. This journey takes us through a swamp teeming with wildlife. We will begin traveling up the Negro River and look for a place to spend the night at Jacaré Ubal. Dinner will feature local dishes, and in the evening, you can join an excursion to spot frogs and snakes.

Date: July 10

We will wake up at 5:30 a.m. to witness one of the most fascinating spectacles: the sunrise over the Amazon. It’s a breathtaking view! We will also enjoy the numerous bird species and other animals awakening with the day.

Breakfast will be served on the boat around 7 a.m. After breakfast, we will sail to an area called Aariaú, a small muddy river teeming with wildlife. After lunch, we will have the opportunity to swim with the pink dolphins, known for their long snouts and distinctive pink color. We can gently touch them and feel their smooth skin.

In the late afternoon, we will watch the sunset and listen to the sounds of the forest at dusk. We will then sail to Anavilhanas National Park, where we will spend the night docked.

Date: July 11

Today we will visit Anavilhanas National Park, which has over 400 islands in the Negro River. This park is one of the largest river archipelagos in the world. We will take a 3-hour tour on a smaller boat, including a walk on one of the islands, home to many monkeys and parrots.

After lunch, we will camp in the jungle—an unforgettable experience! We will sleep in our own hammock surrounded by the forest. You will be amazed by the sounds of the jungle at night and the depth of the darkness. Highly recommended for a memorable encounter with nature in all its embrace. We will walk to the campsite, gather firewood to prepare a campfire, and enjoy our dinner—a barbecue in the jungle! If you prefer, sleeping on the boat is also an option.

About Anavilhanas National Park:

Anavilhanas National Park, in the Brazilian Amazon, protects a vast river archipelago with rich biodiversity. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a Ramsar site, ideal for ecotourism such as boat trips and wildlife observation. Access is from Manaus via Novo Airão.

Date: July 12

We will wake up at the campsite and return to the boat for breakfast on board. We will sail downstream to Rio Negro National Park. The guide will explain about the local community and its history, including how settlers profited from the rubber trade and how the town was later abandoned.

In the afternoon, we will visit the indigenous village of Tatuyu, using a small boat to explore the surrounding nature and enjoy the sunset. Dinner will be served on board.

The evening is reserved for relaxing on the boat and admiring the Milky Way, clearly visible far from any major city.

Date: July 13

After breakfast, we will visit the community and learn about the daily life of its people. We will have the opportunity to visit a local school. If you wish, you can bring gifts for the children—school supplies are very welcome! After this, we will begin our journey back to Manaus.

After breakfast, we will disembark in Manaus! We will take a city tour before heading to the airport to catch our flight to Rio de Janeiro. Departure time to be confirmed.

Date: July 15

Upon arrival in Rio, transfer to the hotel for the final day of our trip. Here, you can relax after so much adventure at the beach. We will be staying in Barra da Tijuca, very close to the ocean!
